I'm interested in organizational structure for assistants. Please share if you report to anyone other than the executive that you are supporting on a regular basis and how that works. Thank you.

I'm a secretary who supports multiple departments. When I initially joined my organization, I mainly assisted a VP and a Director, who is my direct supervisor, as well as the Administrative office as need. This has significantly changed. As of now, I mainly support the VP who oversees 4 Divisions, which now includes 7 departments, and my Supervisory/Director. All together that is 1 VP, 4 Directors, 4 Managers, 2 Secretaries, 1 Payroll Secretary, 1 Surgery Scheduler, 1 Charge Coordinator, and Equipment Coordinator.

I am the Exec Assistant and Admin Supervisor. I report to the President/CEO. Prior to me joining the organization, the Admin Assistants reported directly to their VPs. Now I am their direct supervisor, mostly for HR issues since their VP directs their day-to-day activities. I obtain the VP input before annual performance evaluations. I have also implemented a monthly staff meeting to increase engagement and team work. This seems to be working. I have heard from both Admin Assistants and VPs that the culture seems to have improved.
